There is a strange thing happening with AI. We are surrounded by tools that promise to save time, yet it is very easy to spend more time managing the tools than doing the work.
That is the opposite of what I want from AI.
For me, the most interesting promise of AI is simple: a person or a small team should be able to do work that previously required far more time, people or specialist support.
Capability matters more than novelty
I am less interested in whether a workflow looks impressive in a demo. I care about whether it removes a real bottleneck. Can it help us research faster? Turn an idea into a first draft? Analyse feedback? Build a prototype? Organise information? Serve a community more consistently?
If the answer is yes, then AI is adding capability. If it only adds another dashboard, another subscription and another thing to maintain, it may be adding complexity instead.
Good technology should make the work feel lighter while increasing what is possible.
Small teams have a new kind of leverage
A small team used to be limited by headcount. Today, that limitation is becoming less absolute. One person can move across research, content, analysis, design, automation and customer support with a level of assistance that simply was not available before.
This does not remove the need for judgment. In fact, it makes judgment more important. When output becomes cheaper, knowing what deserves to be made becomes more valuable.
The workflow I keep coming back to
I like to think in four steps: identify the bottleneck, give AI the right context, keep a human decision at the important point, then measure whether the result is actually better.
The biggest mistake is automating a bad process. Speed does not fix confusion. Sometimes the first job is not to add AI, but to simplify the process itself.
The real advantage
I do not think the long-term advantage will belong to whoever uses the most AI tools. It will belong to people who learn how to combine clear thinking, useful context, good taste and fast execution.
That is the version of AI I am interested in building around. Less theatre. More capability.
